Position Summary

The Business Data Systems Analyst reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining database solutions, creating insightful reports and dashboards, and analyzing data to provide actionable insights for informed decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, data analysis, reporting, and business analysis, with proficiency in Power BI, SQL Query Language, Excel, and business analysis methodologies.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Database Management:

  • Design, develop, and maintain database solutions to support business operations and reporting requirements.
  • Create and optimize database structures, tables, views, and stored procedures to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability.
  • Perform data migration, transformation, and integration tasks as needed to support business processes and applications.

2. Data Analysis:

  • Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive business decision-making and performance improvement.
  • Develop and execute SQL queries, scripts, and stored procedures to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from multiple sources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable insights and data-driven solutions.

3. Reporting and Visualization:

  • Design and develop interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Power BI to present data in a clear, concise, and meaningful manner.
  • Customize and configure Power BI dashboards to meet user requirements and deliver actionable insights that drive business outcomes.
  • Create ad-hoc reports and data extracts as requested by stakeholders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of information.

4. Data Governance and Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the integrity, security, and privacy of data assets.
  • Perform data quality assessments, validation, and cleansing activities to maintain data accuracy and reliability.
  • Implement data validation rules, data profiling techniques, and data quality checks to identify and address data anomalies and inconsistencies.

5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, business users, and management, to understand reporting requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Communicate insights, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders through presentations, reports, and data visualizations.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on database tools, reporting platforms, and data analysis techniques.

6. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in database management, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in SQL Query Language, with experience in database design, optimization, and administration.
  • Demonstrated experience with Power BI, including data modeling, report development, and dashboard design.
  • Proven advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, macros, and data analysis functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices, statistical analysis techniques, and business intelligence concepts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Experience working with large datasets, data warehouses, and BI tools in a business environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data integration technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with other reporting and analytics tools such as Power Bi, Tableau, or QlikView is desirable.
  • Formal training in Power BI or SQL Query Language is preferred but not required.
