The IT Systems Specialist reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation, security, and maintenance of our organization’s IT systems. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

System Administration:

  • Install, configure, and maintain a variety of hardware and software systems, including servers, workstations, networking equipment, and peripherals.
  • Monitor system performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement necessary upgrades or enhancements to optimize system functionality.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as system updates, patches, and backups to ensure system reliability and security.

Security Management:

  • Implement and enforce security measures to protect the organization’s IT infrastructure from cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor security logs, investigate security incidents, and implement remediation actions to mitigate risks and maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify potential security gaps and recommend corrective actions.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, resolving technical problems, and answering IT-related inquiries.
  • Act as a point of contact for escalated technical issues, providing timely resolution and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction.

Collaboration and Project Management:

  • Collaborate with IT team members and other departments to plan, implement, and support IT projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, and system design to ensure alignment with business objectives and technical requirements.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of new technologies, tools, and solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Document IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps to maintain an accurate knowledge base and facilitate knowledge transfer within the IT team and across departments.
  • Create user manuals, training materials, and other documentation to support end-users and promote self-service capabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Eight years of experience in IT systems administration, network administration, or a similar role.
  • Proven experience in administering Windows and/or Linux operating systems, as well as common productivity and collaboration tools.
  • Strong understanding and experience with networking concepts, protocols, and security principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical users and collaborate with team members.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and occasional after-hours support as needed.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information.
