Position Summary

The Senior Buyer/Planner oversees daily activities for the procurement, purchasing, and supplier maintenance for production, NPD (New Product Development), facilities and other services. In addition, the position supports the planning of production activities to align with forecast and material availability. This position will interact with external suppliers for goods and services and internal customers to define requirements for purchased goods and services. The ideal candidate possesses interpersonal skills that works with suppliers as well as with internal cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Production, Materials, Regulatory, and Document Control.

Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for and has authority that includes:

  • Performs regular reviews of inventory level for the manufacturing supplies, raw materials, subassemblies and finished goods.
  • Performs what-if analysis and mitigation plans for supply chain or manufacturing risks.
  • Supports running MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) or MIN/MAX inventory calculations.
  • Generates purchase orders and work orders to maintain supply levels.
  • Tracks open orders and deliveries to ensure on time receipts.
  • Reviews open purchase order reports to manage past due purchase orders.
  • Reviews and manages any issued non-conformances documentation to the suppliers.
  • Leads supplier onboarding and ASL management.
  • Works closely with Document Control on sending revised specifications to suppliers.
  • Works as an integral team member with Finance on any discrepancies on invoices, purchase price variance (PPV), and on boarding suppliers.
  • Works in coordination with Quality to report on and maintain supplier performance.
  • Works closely with Engineering to communicate updates and/or changes between different product lines and
  • Support supplier selection process and qualification.
  • Representative of Supply Chain on NPD projects to ensure part specifications and documents are reviewed internally and with Suppliers for accurate and timely delivery of components.
  • Interface with suppliers necessary to maintain/upgrade/repair facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent education.
  • A minimum of 8 years of related business or manufacturing experience is required with 5 years of Purchasing, Planning and Inventory Control, or Master Scheduling experience.
  • Fundamental understanding and application of manufacturing activities, supplier selection, buying and planning activities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of MRP system functionality
  • Excellent Communications skills Strong analytic problem-solving skills, and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • 5% travel
  • Medical Device industry is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years managing supply chain activities.
  • Working knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulation and/or ISO 13485
  • Experience creating/building organizational competencies within a small high growth medical device company.
  • Experienced in ERP system implementation.
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and/or Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM)
